Early this month, our neighbors asked us to take care of their dog, Boris, while they were out of town. Lily was afraid of him at first, like she is with EVERYTHING, but she quickly warmed up and they became friends. For a while after that, she would stop by his door looking for him every time we walked by.
We were able to attend a few events on post. With Memorial Day being observed this month, we went to the Memorial Day Ceremony. Adam got to be part of the ceremony with a number of other airmen. Each year, former graduates of DLI (where Adam is studying) who had died in service over the previous year are recognized. It was a great reminder that Memorial Day is not just another day off, but a chance to recognize, remember, and express gratitude for those who gave their lives to protect our freedoms.
Another event we got to attend was the Airman Combat Challenge where the two Air Force squadrons here competed against each other in different events. They did a golf cart race (the airmen pushing their leaders in golf carts across the field), pull-ups, tug-of-war and flipped huge tires across the field. Adam's squadron lost...bad, but it was still fun to watch.
On Memorial Day, we went to the 1st Annual Clam Chowder and Calamari Festival near Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey. It was kind of a fun experience with music, food and cooking presentations, but the clam chowder and calamari were both way overpriced and mediocre. Adam had never walked down the wharf before, and I hadn't been there in years, so that was fun.
Adam couldn't find his glasses, so he had to wear his "birth control glasses" from Basic Training.
Other than that, I have been keeping myself busy going on long walks with Lily. Having the beach within a half mile from our apartment, as well as streets with tons of tree coverage and hiking paths nearby, makes for some really nice walks.

The last picture of Lily is so cute!!! I laughed so hard when I saw it. You are such a good blog-xample. :)
