June - August 2012

It's been a few months since our last post, and quite a bit has happened, so I'll try to give a brief summary. In the beginning of June, we found out that our dog got pregnant by her previous owners' other pug just days before we adopted her. Within a week of finding out, we ended up with two adorable pug puppies. The light colored female one is Kapiolani (Lani for short), and the black male is Kuhio.

Not even a week later, my brother and his wife came to Monterey for their honeymoon while we watched their 4 kids for a few days. We had some fun with them going to the beach, going on a tram ride around the city and playing with the puppies. Also, Adam decided to throw them a little party the first night they were with us.

A proud event for us was that Adam graduated from his year and a half long, intensive language training on July 3rd! He was one of the few who also did a little extra work to receive their associates degree while there. Adam's parents and youngest brother were able to come for that, and we had a lot of fun with them visiting and seeing the sites of Monterey.

We really enjoyed their quick visit, but we had to get to work packing, cleaning and moving right after they left. We put most of our stuff in storage until we get to Maryland in November and packed our van pretty much as full as it could get for our trip to Texas, where Adam's 3 month training is. On the way, we stopped in San Diego to see some of my family for a couple of days.

Other than being able to see my family, the trip to Texas wasn't terribly enjoyable. The van was cramped, and we had to stop every 2 hours and figure out where we could lay Lily down to feed the puppies. We made it to Texas safely and have settled into our apartment (after the dogs and I stayed in a motel for a month while Adam had to live on base). The puppies have grown a lot and are figuring out more and more ways to try to destroy our apartment, Adam is doing well in his class, and we are all trying to stay cool in this hot, Texas summer.
