There wasn't a whole lot going on for us in January. We had a quiet New Years party with just the 2 of us at home. I prepared a bunch of snacks while we watched movies and counted down to the New Year.
After a nice, long break, Adam went back to work on the 3rd. When he went back, pretty much everybody in his class was really rusty with their Pashto because they hadn't done much with it for a few weeks. Adam, on the other hand, was able to pick up where he left off and even excel to where he is now at the top of his class. This was such a blessing for him since he's been struggling to keep up since the beginning. He has worked hard and asked help from the Lord, and it is all starting to pay off. One of his classmates was raving to me about how well Adam is doing, so I'm pretty proud of him for that.
The thing that has pretty much been consuming our thoughts this month was some news we got about one of our best friends, Matt, who we know from BYU-H. We just found out that Matt has at least stage 3B melanoma, and they are still doing tests to figure out exactly where it has spread. On top of that, Matt's wife, Sunshine, is 32 weeks pregnant with their 3rd child (oldest just turned 2), so they have a lot on their plates at this time. Adam and I have been fasting and praying for them and struggling with not being able to be there (Indianapolis) to help them and trying to do all we can from here. We are planning on going to visit them during Adam's class break in the beginning of March. Here's one of my favorite pictures. It is of Matt and Adam the first time we hung out with him and Sunshine some time in 2007. We had got a hold of a bunch of balloons and made balloon armor and weapons for the boys.
That's pretty much it for the month other than Adam and I becoming Sunbeam (3-4 years old) teachers with a class of 10! It's been interesting trying to come up with ideas to keep them engaged, but Adam is amazing with them and we're having fun.
Oh Jenni! I love that picture of Matt and Adam! And your snacks for New Years look super yummy. Good job keeping your blog updated. I need to update mine ... but not today or tomorrow. Maybe Thursday. Congrats to Adam for being top of the class!
